Plant Heritage – A National Treasure
Plant Heritage’s Jewels in the Crown are the 700 plus National Collections of rare and interesting plants throughout the UK and Ireland (there are currently a record 17 National Collections in Dorset with one new one pending approval).
Plant Heritage has a website which explains our structure and aims. We have professional Plant Conservationists who can offer advice and guidance to members, especially those who might be considering holding a National Collection or becoming a Plant Guardian of an interesting or rare plant. www.plantheritage.org.uk
Plant Heritage Membership
If you are interested in joining Plant Heritage, here are the benefits:
You will receive a welcome pack from our Central Office; then twice a year you will receive a colour magazine (The Journal) plus once a year, you will get a valuable directory of National Plant Collections which lists all the collections in the UK, giving opening times, locations etc and any special events. On a local level, you will receive regular newsletters (usually by email) from the Dorset Group, giving details of meetings, talks, events and trips. Early in the year, you will also receive a colour magazine (The Yearbook); this is normally handed out to members at meetings or sent out to those who cannot attend.
Your membership has a number of other significant benefits – you can attend any routine Plant Heritage meeting or talk anywhere in the UK, free of charge – not just in Dorset. We also have regular talks and workshops offered by Zoom – many of these are free of charge to members. You can attend any of our Plant Fairs in Dorset (in 2026 there are 2) both free of charge, just by showing your membership card. Dorset Group members can also attend free or subsidized events organised by the Group.
